Alongside his club commitments, Kwon has had the honour of representing the Korea Republic national team.

In January 2019, Kwon embarked on his professional career with Busan I'Park in the K League 2 in Korea Republic. His first year saw a meagre two first team appearances in league matches but over the years his contribution gradually increased. During the subsequent season, he made 16 first team appearances and even netted a goal. In 2022, Kwon played five matches for the first team, and his work rate remained consistent in 2023 with 20 appearances and two goals.
An opportunity emerged in March 2021, when Kwon was loaned out to Gimcheon Sangmu in the K League 1. Over the course of the loan, he made 14 appearances in 2021 and 19 in 2022, gaining ample experience at a higher level of competition. Upon completion of his loan, Kwon returned to his original club, Busan I'Park.
In July 2023, Kwon was transferred from Busan I'Park to Celtic in the Premiership in Scotland for a reported fee of £860k. Celtic, however, found him to be a surplus to their requirements and sent him on loan to St Mirren and Hibernian respectively in January and August 2024. During the loan stints in Scotland, Kwon made a modest contribution of eight and 21 appearances respectively.
Upon his return from Scotland in July 2025, Celtic decided to part ways with Kwon and transferred him to Nantes in the Ligue 1 in France for around £220k. In the ongoing 2025 - 2026 season, Kwon has played 12 league matches for Nantes.
Not one to be tied down for long, Kwon made another move in February 2026, this time to Karlsruher in the 2. Bundesliga in Germany for an undisclosed fee. Since his transfer to Germany, he has taken the field six times in the league for Karlsruher in the current season.
