Jeremie Frimpong was born in Amsterdam on 10 December 2000 (age 25) and represents the Netherlands. A right back by trade, he came through at Manchester City before Celtic took him to Glasgow in September 2019 for around £350,000.
His Celtic spell was short but useful to both sides. Frimpong brought pace and nerve to the right flank, then left in January 2021 when Bayer Leverkusen paid around £12m. Celtic did not get his peak years, but they did get the first senior glimpse of a player whose career soon moved onto a bigger platform.
Leverkusen is where his career has been shaped most clearly. Across five seasons there, he made 133 league appearances and scored 23 league goals – a return well beyond the usual expectations for a defender. His best league season came in 2023–2024, when he scored nine times in 31 appearances.
Now at Liverpool, wearing squad number 30, Frimpong remains a regular first-team figure in 2025–2026. He has made 21 league appearances this season, along with games in the FA Cup, League Cup, FA Community Shield and Champions League, taking him to 35 appearances and two goals across all competitions for the club. He has also featured twice for the Netherlands in European World Cup qualifying.
His current market value is around £32.5m, according to Transfermarkt. From Celtic prospect to Leverkusen regular and now Liverpool full back, Frimpong’s career has been built on attacking output from a defensive position, with Leverkusen still the spell that gives it its clearest shape.
