Jeremy Toljan, born in Stuttgart on 8 August 1994 (age 31), is a German right-back now with Levante. His early senior progress came at 1899 Hoffenheim, where his 2015-2016 league season brought 18 appearances and one goal, still his most productive campaign in front of goal. A move to Borussia Dortmund followed, though his career needed steadier football than Dortmund offered.
Celtic brought him in from Borussia Dortmund in January 2019. It was a relatively brief Scottish chapter rather than the spell that shaped him, but it placed him in a demanding environment at a point when he was still trying to turn promise and pedigree into week-to-week reliability.
The long stretch at Sassuolo is where Toljan’s career really settled. Across six seasons he made 165 league appearances and scored once, becoming a familiar part of their side rather than a passing name on a squad list. It was not a career built on glamour, but Sassuolo gave him volume, continuity and a clear role.
He has since moved on to Levante, where he wears number 2 and remains a regular first-team presence in 2025-2026, with 37 LaLiga appearances and one goal. His current market value is around £2m, according to Transfermarkt.
Toljan’s career has taken him from Hoffenheim and Dortmund through Celtic, but it is the Sassuolo years that carry the most weight. At Levante, he remains active, experienced and still involved at league level.
