Matt O’Riley, born in London on 21 November 2000 (age 25), is a Denmark international midfielder now with Brighton & Hove Albion. His current market value is around £17m, according to Transfermarkt.
He joined Celtic from MK Dons in January 2022 for around £1.5m, and that move quickly became the central stretch of his career. O’Riley gave Celtic control, craft and a growing goal threat from midfield, making 93 league appearances and scoring 25 league goals across four seasons.
His best league season came in 2023-24, when he scored 18 goals in 37 appearances. That was the point at which he moved beyond being a clever signing from the English lower leagues and became one of Celtic’s main players, with the influence to match the numbers.
In August 2024, O’Riley left Celtic for Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal worth around £25m. It was a substantial fee and, for once, not one that required much explaining.
At Brighton, where he wears squad number 33, his 2025-26 league involvement has been limited so far, with six Premier League appearances and one goal. He has also remained involved with Denmark, making two appearances in European World Cup qualifying this season.
O’Riley’s career has taken him from MK Dons to Celtic and then into the Premier League with Brighton, but his Celtic spell remains the part that shaped his reputation most clearly.
