Adam Matthews was born in Swansea on 13 January 1992 (age 34) and came through at Cardiff City before Celtic moved for him in July 2011, paying around £200,000. Primarily a defender, he arrived young enough to develop but ready enough to be used, which is usually the part that separates a prospect from a project.
His best league return at Celtic came in 2012-13, when he scored two goals in 22 appearances. Matthews was never the loudest presence in that side, but he became a useful and trusted first-team player across his four years in Glasgow, offering pace, discipline and a decent level of assurance on the right side of defence.
