Alexander Schwolow, born in Germany on the 2nd of June 1992, is an established goalkeeper now donning the number 25 shirt for Hearts. At 6ft 2in (1.9m) tall and weighing in at 13st 5lb (85kg), he presents an imposing figure between the sticks. It has been calculated that Schwolow's current market value hovers around £425,000, information provided by Transfermarkt.
Schwolow's professional journey began in July 2010 when Freiburg in the Bundesliga took him under their wing. Compilation of his statistics at Freiburg show that he had an impressive run, featuring in league matches regularly. His inaugural season 2013 - 2014 presented him with his first taste of first-team football, albeit in a single appearance. However, by the time the 2015 - 2016 season rolled around he had firmly established himself as a regular, making 33 appearances. His form remained consistent, playing 34, 33, 33 and finally 24 league matches in the consecutive seasons thereafter.
In June 2014, Schwolow sought for new pastures, albeit temporarily, joining Arminia Bielefeld in the 2. Bundesliga on loan where he made 37 appearances in league matches during his stint. A year later, he was recalled by Freiburg and continued his consistent performance in league matches.
Eventually, in August 2020, Schwolow's journey took a new turn as he transferred from Freiburg to Hertha BSC, not far off from a rounded figurative transfer fee of £7.2m. His two seasons at Hertha saw him rack up 51 league appearances. The goalkeeper later ventured on loan to Schalke 04 in the 2. Bundesliga in July 2022, featuring in 23 league matches.
Upon the completion of his loan, Schwolow transferred to Union Berlin in the Bundesliga in July 2023. He had a relatively short stint there, managing just seven appearances spanning two seasons. From Germany, Schwolow made his way to Scotland, joining Hearts in August 2025. Schwolow seems to be settling in well, having already featured in 11 first team league matches in the current 2025 - 2026 season.
