Born in Canada on 8th October 1998, Alistair Johnston is a poke-yer-eye-out defender, primarily playing as right back for his current club, Celtic. The lad stands at a robust 5ft 10in (1.8m) tall and tips the scales at a solid 12st 1lb (77kg). The number 2 jersey has been his footballing signature. He's also had the privilege of representing his home nation, strutting his stuff for the Canada national team.
His current market value flickers around the Β£6.8m mark, having been converted from Euros, as according to Transfermarkt.
In February 2020, Johnston put on his dancing shoes and tread the transfer mill from the MLS in the USA as he joined Nashville, being picked up in the draft system. His debut season was no quiet affair, he made 18 first team appearances in league matches. Further treading the path the following season, Johnston made 26 first team appearances and notched a goal in league matches.
Always on the move, Johnston changed his home ground from Nashville to CF Montreal in December 2021, also in the MLS in the USA, for a hush-hush fee. His season at CF Montreal recorded a measure of success with 33 first team appearances and four goals in league matches.
January 2023 saw our journeyman travel across the Atlantic, landing at the grand old club Celtic, in the Scottish Premiership. The move was sealed with a neat transfer fee of around Β£3m.
At Celtic, Johnston didn't just blend into the green, he truly began to shine. In the season 2022 - 2023, he made 14 first team appearances, netting a goal in league matches. Cementing his place in the squad for the 2023 - 2024 season, Johnston again displayed his marksmanship with 32 first team appearances and a goal. He repeated the feat of 32 appearances in the 2024 - 2025 season, only this time quadrupling his goal tally to four. With the season 2025 - 2026 barely underway, Johnston has already accumulated two first team appearances.
His contributions have also been vital in knockout competitions. He bagged a goal in the single match he played for Celtic in the League Cup 2025 - 2026. He started one match each for Celtic in the Champions League Qualifiers 2025 - 2026 and the Europa League 2025 - 2026. He also had a fair run in the Gold Cup 2025 for Canada, starting twice and making one substitute appearance.
