Benjamin Nygren, a Swedish native born on 8 July 2001, is a midfielder currently adding his prowess to Celtic's line-up. Standing at an impressive 6ft (1.84m), and weighing 12st 1lb (77kg), Nygren carves an imposing figure on the pitch. His primary position is central attacking midfielder, and he proudly wears the number 8 jersey. Internationally, his skills have been recognised as he has represented the Swedish national team.

Nygren's journey to Celtic started in January 2017, when he joined IFK Gothenburg, a club in the Allsvenskan league in Sweden. He turned his training into experience, making three appearances and scoring two goals in his first team debut season in 2018. He continued to mature in the 2019 season, adding 12 more appearances and four goals.
In July 2019, he transferred from IFK Gothenburg to Genk in Belgium's Pro League, commanding an approximated fee of £3.4 million. It was a time of development, with five appearances and one goal over two seasons.
Nygren then experienced Dutch football, loaned to Heerenveen in the Eredivisie for two seasons from October 2020. He played a total of 45 games and scored four goals while in the Netherlands.
In January 2022, Nygren made another move, transferring to FC Nordsjaelland in Denmark's Superliga for approximately £540,000. This proved to be a fertile period for Nygren. Across four seasons, from 2021/22 to 2024/25, he made 87 appearances and scored a total of 25 goals.
Eventually, in July 2025, Nygren was transferred to Celtic in the Premiership, Scotland for a modest fee of around £1.5 million. Currently, in the 2025/26 season, he is fast becoming a fan favourite. He has already made 14 appearances and scored five goals for Celtic.
In addition to his ongoing league performances, Nygren has played in the 2025/26 League Cup for Celtic, the 2024/26 World Cup Qualifiers for Sweden, and in both Champions League Qualifiers and Europa League matches for Celtic in 2025/26. In these competitions, he has spent time on field both as a starting player and a substitute, indicating his versatility and adding to his goal tally.
