Besides club football, Lyons has also had the honour of representing his country, Northern Ireland, on the international stage.
Lyons embarked on his professional football journey in July 2014, when he joined Coleraine in the Northern Ireland Premiership as a trainee. Over the course of his tenure from 2014 to 2018, Lyons made a significant impact at the club. His debut season saw him making 11 first team appearances and bagging two goals. Over the following three seasons, Lyons' presence was a regular feature in the first team, with a total of 71 appearances and twelve goals to his name.
In a twist of his career, Lyons was loaned to Blackburn Rovers in the English Championship in September 2018. A few months later, in January 2019, this move was made permanent for an undisclosed fee. Post his stint at St Mirren, Lyons returned to Blackburn in June 2019. Although his time at the Rovers was not extensive, he did get an opportunity to experience English football once again in January 2021, when he was loaned to Morecambe in the National League.
By July 2021, Lyons embarked on a new journey with Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership. His contributions since joining the club have been quite significant. In his first season, Lyons made 19 appearances and scored a goal. He continued his form into the subsequent seasons, making 78 appearances and bagging four goals from 2022 to the ongoing season of 2025-2026.
But Lyons' influence was not only restricted to league matches. He also participated in the League Cup 2025-2026 for Kilmarnock, where he scored a goal from three starts and one substitute appearance. Lyons also featured in the Scottish Cup 2025-2026 for Kilmarnock with one start, and actively participated in the World Cup Qualifiers Europe 2024-2026 for Northern Ireland, starting twice.
