Brian McLaughlin, a Scottish midfielder with a keen eye for the left attacking mid-position, was born on 14th May 1974. With a stature of 1.63m (5ft 4in) and weighing 54kg (8st 7lb), McLaughlin had an impressive career peppered with appearances in both the Premiership in Scotland and League One in England.
McLaughlin commenced his professional football journey with Celtic in July 1991 where he climbed the ranks from being a trainee to making eight first-team appearances in league games in the debut season of 1993/94. Over the next three seasons, his appearances almost tripled for the hoops, playing in 21, 26, and 20 games respectively. His 1995/96 and 1996/97 seasons were particularly fruitful as he netted four and one goals, respectively. However, in the 1997/98 season, McLaughlin found himself on the sidelines making no first-team appearances in league matches.
Departing from Celtic in March 1999, McLaughlin transferred to Dundee United. His stint there was rather short with only three first-team appearances in the season of 1998/99. In June of the same year, McLaughlin left Scottish shores for Wigan Athletic in the English League One. Over two seasons he had participations in six and 18 matches respectively.
His travels brought him back to Scotland where he switched sides from Wigan Athletic to Ayr United in August 2001. The 2001/02 season saw McLaughlin on the pitch for 19 matches registering one goal. His next move was to Queen of the South in July 2002. Over the span of three seasons, he clocked an impressive total of 76 appearances in addition to notching up five goals. On the move again in June 2003 and 2004, McLaughlin slid into the line-ups of St Johnstone and again at Queen of the South.
July 2006 marked his transfer to Stenhousemuir, where he donned their colours for the next two seasons making 46 appearances and scoring one goal. In April 2008, however, McLaughlin's details of a transfer remain undisclosed. It was here his record seemingly concluded, marking the ephemeral ebb and flow of the hard-fought career of a midfielder.
