In the heat of a Scottish July in 2009, Robertson commited his future to Aberdeen of the Scottish Premiership. His first season was a quiet affair with him making just three appearances in league matches. The following season saw an increased involvement with 13 appearances, which was then followed by nine and 23 appearances in the subsequent two seasons. Despite stepping out for Aberdeen on only eight occasions in season 2013 - 2014, his final term yielded a mere solitary appearance.
July 2015 marked a turning point in Robertson's career as he crossed borders and joined Blackpool, competing in England's League One. His three seasons spent in the seaside town saw him amass over a century of appearances, finding the back of the net on two occasions throughout his 104 games.
Once again, a summer transfer was on the horizon for Robertson as he traded Blackpool for Rotherham United in July 2018. A solar year saw an impressive haul of 28 appearances and three goals during the 2018 - 2019 season, while the 2020 - 2021 season saw him take to the field 16 times for the League One outfit.
Inevitably, the July of 2021 ushered in another move for Robertson as he set sail for Portsmouth, partaking in England's Championship league for season. His involvement was once again limited to 16 appearances for the club.
The globetrotting Robertson then sought pastures new in the sunny climes of Israel, signing for FC Ashdod in the Israeli Premier League in July of 2023. His only season in Israel saw him play 19 league games, smashing in two goals in the process.
The Scottish defender's most recent venture brought him back to his roots as he signed for Dundee in the Scottish Premiership in July 2024. So far, Robertson has made 21 appearances in his debut season and contributed to the team in the current season with 14 appearances and two goals to his name.
