Clément Lenglet, born on 17 June 1995 (age 31), is a French central defender now with Benfica, wearing squad number two. His career has been built on regular senior football rather than sudden noise, with his strongest league return coming at Sevilla in 2017-2018, when he scored three goals in 35 appearances.
That Sevilla spell remains a useful marker in his development: a centre-half getting through a full league campaign, adding a modest goal threat, and doing enough to move his career on to a higher level. There is no need to dress it up beyond that. For a defender, 35 league games in Spain says plenty.
At Benfica in 2026-2027, Lenglet has made eight Liga Portugal appearances and scored once. He has also played five times in Europa League qualifying, scoring once, and once in the Europa League proper. Across all competitions for Benfica, he stands at 14 appearances and two goals this season.
His campaign has also included two Club World Cup appearances. At 31, Lenglet is an experienced first-team defender whose career has moved from a productive spell at Sevilla to his current role in Lisbon, with enough European mileage behind him to know the job.
