Cristian Montaño, born in Colombia on 11th December 1991, is a professional footballer who, aged 34, is currently plying his trade as a left-back for Livingston in the Scottish Premiership. With a height of 6'1" (1.86m) and weight of approximately 12st 1lb (77kg), Montaño brings a significant physical presence to the left side of defence and his number 26 jersey has become an increasingly regular sight for Livingston fans.' Transfermarkt site values him at £85,000.
Montaño's early career was typified by a series of loans from West Ham United. His first taste of senior football came in League Two with Notts County, where he made 15 appearances and found the back of the net four times in the 2011-2012 season. The same season also saw him loaned out to Swindon Town making four appearances and scoring one goal and then Dagenham & Redbridge where he made ten appearances, scoring three times.
In a slightly surprising move for a young player gaining his first experience of first team football, Montaño was loaned by West Ham to Oxford United, then of the Championship. There, he made nine appearances and scored twice in the latter stages of the 2011–2012 season.
Arguably, the most significant step in his early development took place in August 2012 when Montaño severed his ties with West Ham to join Oldham Athletic in the League Two. He had a relatively successful time there, making 40 league appearances across two seasons and scoring three goals. Montaño's next move, a transfer to América de Cali in Colombia in January 2014, would provide him with a taste of football in his homeland.
Montaño returned to England in July 2015, joining Bristol Rovers where he made over 50 appearances across two seasons scoring three goals. His respectable performances attracted interest from Port Vale where he transferred in July 2017. During the 2017-2018 season, he made 19 appearances and scored three goals.
The next leg of Montaño's journey saw him venture north to Scottish soil, signing for Livingston in July 2021. Since joining Livingston, he has so far amassed 102 league appearances, bagging ten goals in the process. During the current season of 2025-2026, he has made 16 appearances and found the back of the net twice. Besides, he took part in the League Cup 2025-2026 for Livingston with one start, the Scottish Cup 2025-2026 for Livingston with one substitute appearance, and the Premiership Playoffs 2024-2025 for Livingston with four starts.
