Danny Ings, born 23 July 1992 in England, spent his football career as a forward, predominantly playing as a striker. Standing at a height of 1.78m (5ft 10in) and a weight of 73kg (11st 6lb), Ings began his professional football career with Bournemouth in the Premier League in July 2010. In his debut season, he made an impression with 26 appearances and seven goals to his name. His second season was considerably quieter, with only a single appearance forthcoming.
In August 2011, Ings made the move from Bournemouth to fellow Premier League outfit Burnley, for a fee of around £1million. This move proved to be something of a springboard for Ings, who appeared 15 times and scored three goals in his first season, following up with 32 appearances and three goals in his second season. His most productive spell came in the 2013-2014 season when he found the net 21 times in 40 appearances. His final season at Burnley saw him score 11 times in 35 appearances.
In July 2015, he made a dream move to Liverpool for a reported fee of around £8 million. Unfortunately, his spell at Liverpool was plagued with injuries, restricting him to six appearances in his debut season, with two goals to his name. He recaptured a semblance of form during the 2017-2018 season, with eight appearances and a solitary goal. However, his Liverpool career never took off as expected.
A loan move to Southampton in the Championship in August 2018 provided Ings with a fresh start. He made 24 appearances in his first season at Southampton, scoring seven goals. In the 2019-2020 season, Ings made a staggering 38 appearances and found the net 22 times. His performance led to a permanent transfer to Southampton, from Liverpool for a fee of around £20million in July 2019. His subsequent seasons at Southampton saw him score 12 goals in 29 appearances in 2020-2021.
In August 2021, Ings made the move from Southampton to Aston Villa in the Premier League for a substantial fee of around £30million. An impressive beginning with Aston Villa saw him score seven goals in 30 appearances in his first season. His subsequent season saw him bag six more goals in 18 appearances.
January 2023 saw another move for Ings, this time to West Ham United for a fee of approximately £15million. However, his stint at West Ham didn't prove fruitful with just two goals in 17 appearances in his first season. Over the next two years, he added a further two goals in 35 appearances to his tally.
In June 2025, Ings made a move away from the Premier League and England altogether. His career, filled with highs and lows, had seen him play at some of the biggest clubs in English football, scoring crucial goals and enduring tough injuries. From his humble beginnings at Bournemouth to his spells at Burnley, Liverpool, Southampton, Aston Villa and West Ham, Ings proved himself a resilient and talented player who can find the net even in the most challenging circumstances.
