Darius Olaru, born on 3 March 1998 (age 28), is a Romanian central midfielder now with Union Saint-Gilloise. He wears number 28 and has built his career on a useful blend of midfield work and attacking return, with more goals than that role usually produces.
His career is shaped above all by FCSB. Across seven seasons there, he made 204 league appearances and scored 49 league goals, a strong return from the middle of the pitch rather than the forward line. His best league season came in 2023–24, when he scored 15 times in 36 appearances.
At Union Saint-Gilloise in 2026–27, Olaru has made 10 appearances in all competitions and scored one goal, including four in the Pro League, two in Champions League qualifiers, three in the Europa League and one in the Super Cup. His form has been solid and consistent, which is about as much as most managers want from a midfielder before asking for the goals on top.
He has also remained involved with Romania this season, making one World Cup qualifying appearance and two in the Nations League. Olaru’s career to this point is a Romania-heavy one with FCSB at its centre, followed by a move into Belgian football with Union Saint-Gilloise.
