David Hannah, born on 4 August 1973 in Scotland, was a central defensive midfielder standing at 5ft 10in (1.8m) tall and weighing 11st 6lb (73kg). An ardent contributor to Scottish football, he was known for his reliable presence on the field.
Hannah began his career with Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership in September 1991. His initial season (1992 - 1993) saw him make only five first team appearances in league matches. However, the promise he showed was such that over the following seasons, his presence gradually increased. From ten appearances and two goals in season 1993 - 1994, to 32 appearances and two goals in season 1994 - 1995, seven appearances with a goal in 1995 - 1996, and finally 12 matches played with a goal scored in season 1996 - 1997, Hannah built a solid portfolio.
December 1996 marked a short detour in Hannah's career as he transferred from Dundee United to Celtic for a fee of around £650k. At Celtic, Hannah played 18 first team league matches in season 1996 - 1997, 15 in 1997 - 1998 and nine in 1998 - 1999.
Following his stint at Celtic, Hannah bounced back to his maiden club, Dundee United in February 1999 for a transfer fee of about £350k. His subsequent performances replicated his earlier tenure at the club, impressing with a healthy number of league appearances, peaking at 33 appearances and six goals in season 1999 - 2000.

Returning to Scotland in March 2006, Hannah played for Brechin City in the Highland League, marking seven first team appearances and scoring one goal. By November of that year, he had switched to Cowdenbeath in the Lowland League, making a promising 14 first team appearances in season 2006 - 2007 and a less fruitful three in the subsequent season.
In a surprising career swerve, Hannah transferred to Fylkir in Iceland's Besta deild karla in May 2007, only to return to Cowdenbeath in October 2007. Yet again, he had a three-season stint back at Fylkir starting May 2008.
Marking the end of his playing career, Hannah transferred to Montrose in the League One of Scotland in October 2008, making just a single appearance in the 2008 - 2009 season.
