Mr. Dylan Lobban, fondly unwrapped on 26 August 2005 (currently gleaming in his early twenties), is in theory a Scotland native and resident. However, one would be forgiven for thinking he might see himself more as a citizen of the world, gallivanting hither and yon across the rocky nooks of Scotland's most storied pitches. Towering in at a somewhat below average 5 foot 8 (1.75m in the continental measurement), and a fighting fit 10st 9lb (68kg for those of you requiring the relevance), Lobban wraps himself in the mystique of the number 38 jersey. A midfielder by trade, he's spent the majority of his footballing heroics in the central attacking role - a generous title for his achievements thus far.
In a not-so surprising turn of events, given his age, Lobban kicked off his professional career as a trainee at Aberdeen in the fine summer of July 2020. There, he drifted between the red brick confines of the Pittodrie Stadium and the relentless North Sea breeze, embodying the very definition of a wet-foot-warm-foot policy. His trials and tribulations saw him shunted from Aberdeen to the remote wilderness of Formartine United in the Highland League on a 'developmental' loan in August 2023. The term 'developmental' being a polite euphemism for 'here, please deal with him'.
Not one to stay put for long, Lobban found himself loaned out yet again, this time to Forfar Athletic in the League Two, come that chilly January of 2024. His expedition to Forfar was a crisp reminder of football's capacity for dissemination. Seven months later, he trod a familiar return route to Aberdeen on the expiry of his loan. At this point, one might well have thought a pattern was starting to emerge for young Dylan.
As it happened, the juggernaut of his jobbing career continued unabated. On a blustery September day in 2024, he found himself rented out again - this time to Cove Rangers in League One. No doubt a step up from his previous stint, it was still very much firmly in the hours-and-pence category compared to the champagne and caviar lifestyle of an Old Firm glamour. Following another season-long sojourn, the well-travelled utility man sauntered back to his parental club, Aberdeen, as summer 2025 rolled around.
In what might generously be seen as his breakout season, Lobban spun his magic in Conference League 2025 - 2026 wearing the Aberdeen jersey. He made four starts - it's not for the record how many times he simply 'made an appearance'. But let’s not let pesky facts get in the way of a good fairytale, shall we?
