Efe Ambrose, born on 18 October 1988 in Nigeria, presently finds his footballing home with Bury. A robust central defender by nature, Ambrose measures at a lofty 6ft 2in (1.9m) and 12st 8lb (80kg) in weight.
Ambrose's career took flight when he moved from the Israeli Premier League's FC Ashdod to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership in August 2012. The fee at the time was not disclosed to the public.
During his tenure at Celtic, Ambrose was a strong presence. During the 2012-2013 season, he made 27 first team appearances and netted thrice, and in the following season, he logged 38 appearances with two goals to his name. His caps remained consistently high, with 27 appearances in the 2014-2015 season and 21 in the 2015-2016 season.
Ambrose's time at Celtic came to an end in February 2017 when he moved to fellow Scottish Premiership club, Hibernian, on loan. He made 10 appearances and scored once during the 2016-2017 season.
A permanent transfer to Hibernian was cemented in July 2017, with Ambrose having a productive time at the club. He stood tall in 38 matches and scored twice in the 2017-2018 season, followed by another 21 appearances in the 2018-2019 season.
The defender decided to try his luck south of the border in February 2019, signing with Derby County in the English Championship. A short stay ensued, and by June 2019, Ambrose was on the move again, the details of which are unfortunately unknown.
Upon returning to Scotland in February 2020, he joined Livingston in the Championship. In the 2019-2020 season, he appeared thrice for the team and followed it up with a more solid 22 appearances in the 2020-2021 season.
After brief stints with St Johnstone and a loan to Dunfermline Athletic in the 2021-2022 season, Ambrose found himself moving to Greenock Morton in the Scottish Championship in October 2022. He played 11 games there and found the back of the net once.
Ambrose's tour of Scotland's lower leagues continued, taking him to Queen of the South in July 2023. Just a year later, he boarded a flight back to England to play for Bury. The current season of 2024-2025 has yet to see him make an appearance.
