Elmar Bjarnason, born on the 4th of March 1987 in Iceland, is an established central midfielder currently playing for KR. Standing at 6ft (1.83m) tall and weighing in at 11st 11lb (75kg), Bjarnason first graced the footballing stages of Scotland as a trainee, joining Celtic in July 2005.
Despite only making a single first team appearance during the 2006-2007 season with Celtic, his raw talent was evident. Being part of a team such as Celtic allowed him to imbibe a culture of winning and bolstered his learning curve. However, in January 2008, he transferred from Celtic to Lyn, a Norwegian club in the OBOS-ligaen. Here, he demonstrated his abilities more frequently, making a total of 24 first team appearances in his first season and netting three goals. His performance continued to improve, playing in 16 matches in the 2009 season.
Later that same year, Bjarnason was on the move again, this time to Swedish outfit IFK Gothenburg. In his first season, he made 11 first team appearances and by the following season, took part in 22 matches and scored four goals. His involvement with the team continued to grow, making 27 first team appearances in the 2011 season.
In an unexpected turn of events, Bjarnason was transferred to Randers in the Danish Superliga in January 2012. Here, he maintained a steady run of performances, making 17 first team appearances in the 2012-2013 season, and 29 first team appearances in the following two seasons, even managing to score three goals during the 2014-2015 season.
After a three-year stint with Randers, Bjarnason moved to AGF Aarhus, another Superliga side. He netted once in his 27 first team appearances in the 2015-2016 season and continued to maintain his streak by appearing in 20 games for the 2016-2017 season.
Bjarnason's career took him to Turkey next, joining Elazigspor in the 2. Lig in July 2017. Two years later, he moved to Gaziantep in the Süper Lig and soon after, transferred to Akhisar Belediyespor in the 2. Lig. His travels didn't stop there as he was on the move again in January 2021, this time to Lamia in the Greek Super League. Here, Bjarnason played impressively, making 17 first team appearances in the 2020-2021 season.
Eventually, he found his way back to his home country, joining KR in the Besta deild karla in July 2021. The current 2024 season sees him making a commendable contribution to the team, with 15 first team appearances and three goals.
