Elmar Bjarnason is an Icelandic central midfielder, born on 4 March 1987 (age 39), whose first step in the senior game came through Celtic’s system. He was a trainee at the club, but his career was not made in Glasgow. In January 2008 he left Celtic for Lyn, and the longer professional road began elsewhere.
From Norway he moved through a varied run of clubs, taking in IFK Gothenburg, AGF Aarhus, Elazigspor, Gaziantep, Akhisar Belediyespor, Lamia and KR. His most productive league season came at IFK Gothenburg in 2010, when he scored four goals in 22 appearances, a decent return for a midfielder rather than anything requiring a brass band.
Bjarnason later established himself more fully at Randers, after a career shaped mostly outside Scotland and spread across Scandinavia, Turkey and Greece. The Celtic connection was early and brief, but it remains the starting point of a solid professional career built well beyond it.
