The footballer known as Jota, otherwise identified as 'Jota' Neves Filipe, was born by the Mercator's seas in Portugal, the 30th of March, 1999. This puts him at a sprightly age of 26. Not a lad to dally in defence, Jota makes his trade as a forward and has an affinity for the left wing in particular when kicking the orb for Celtic. Jota does these feats at a height of 5ft 8in (1.75m) and with a weight on the scales at 10st 7lb (67kg). For Celtic, one can spot him donning the number 7 jersey.
Data from the esteemed football website Transfermarkt places his current market value around the rounded sum of £5m, a respectable number indeed.
Now let us turn back the calendar to July 2007, where we find our lad Jota starting out as a trainee at Benfica in Liga Portugal. After several seasons, he finally made his mark in the 2018 - 2019 season, making four appearances for the first team. The following season saw him tally 19 appearances.
Like a migratory bird, Jota moved on a loan spell to Real Valladolid in the Segunda División in Spain in October 2020. In the ensuing season there, he made 17 first team appearances and put one goal in the net.
August 2021 saw Jota make his way to the bonnie hills of Scotland, joining Celtic on loan. There he quickly established himself over the 2021 - 2022 season with 29 first team appearances and an impressive strike rate of ten goals. Progressing from strength to strength, he bolstered his goal tally to 11 in the 2022 - 2023 season, making 33 first team appearances. The current season of 2025 - 2026 has not yet seen him grace the pitch in league matches.
Celtic, seemingly impressed with the lad's efforts, permanently signed Jota from Benfica for the sum of around £6.5m in July 2022. That same season, he continued impressing the Parkhead faithful with 29 appearances and 10 goals in the 2022 - 2023 season. Inexplicably, Jota transferred to Al-Ittihad in the Pro League in Saudi Arabia for an astounding £25m in July 2023, but only made 16 appearances with four goals in his season there.
Perhaps longing for the old continent, he signed for Rennes in Ligue 1 in France in August 2024 for £6.8m, where he debuted in the Hoops in the 2024 - 2025 season, scoring one goal in nine appearances.
And as the tides forever return to the shore, so too did Jota to Celtic for a fee of around £8.5m in January 2025. During the season of his return, he quickly resumed his previous form, notably scoring four goals in just 11 games. His performances continued to delight the Celtic followers, though he has yet to feature in the current 2025 - 2026 season.
