Franco Israel, a native of Uruguay, born on 22 April 2000, is now a 25 year-old goalkeeper for Sporting CP. Standing impressively at 6ft 2in (1.9m) and weighing 11st 13lb (76kg), he sports the number 1 jersey on his back. Israel has proudly represented his birth nation, Uruguay, on the international stage.
Israel's current market value is estimated around £4.3m, according to the reliable resource Transfermarkt. His contractual agreement with Sporting CP is expected to run its course by the 30th of June, 2027, with a full year plus twelve months remaining.
Turning the clock back to August 2018, we find Israel switching Nacional for Juventus. The transfer saw the Serie A giants parting with approximately £2m to bring the Uruguayan talent from the Primera División. A few years later, in July 2022, Israel packed his bags again, this time trading Italy for Portugal. The move to Sporting CP from Juventus cost the Portuguese side a fee in the region of £590k.
At Sporting CP, Israel gradually eased into his debut season, 2022-2023, making a total of three first team appearances in league matches. He continued to feature more prominently the following season, 2023-2024, securing ten first team appearances in league matches. The next season, 2024-2025, saw his involvement continue to rise as he made eleven first team appearances in league matches.
He also had the honour of playing in some highly esteemed competitions due to his club's success. In the 2023-2024 season, Israel featured in the Europa League for Sporting CP, starting four matches. His performances evidently up to snuff, as the following 2024-2025 season saw him grace the Champions League for Sporting CP, making eight starts.
The 2025-2026 season will once again see Israel representing Sporting CP in Portugal, continuing his journey in the sport he clearly relishes. His career, still with many years ahead, promises to carry his story much further. As spectators, we can only watch, analyse and enjoy.
