Gary Caldwell, 43 years of age, hailing from Scotland, is a retired footballer who spent his career in the centre back position. At a height of 5ft 10in (1.8m) and a weight of 11st 11lb (75kg), Caldwell displayed formidable presence on the pitch.
His football career debuted at Newcastle United in July 1999 as a trainee. During his first 2000 - 2001 season, Caldwell graced the pitch twice in league matches. But then in November 2001, he was transferred on loan to Darlington, where he took part in four games in the National League North for the season. His versatility was lauded as he then moved on to a loan spell at Hibernian in Scotland's Premiership in January 2002. He donned the Hibernian shirt an impressive 37 times and found the back of the net thrice in the 2004 – 2005 season.
Caldwell also had loan spells at Coventry City in England's Championship, where he played in 36 games in the 2002 - 2003 season, and then at Derby County, where he featured in nine games in the 2003 - 2004 season. He eventually rejoined Hibernian officially in January 2004 for further successful seasons.
His pathway led him to the hoops of Celtic in the Scottish Premiership in June 2006. Caldwell proved to be a stalwart for the Bhoys, marking 21 appearances in his inaugural season. His most successful season saw him feature 36 times and score thrice for the Hoops in the 2008 - 2009 campaign. His Celtic stint lasted till January 2010.
Subsequently, he donned the Wigan Athletic jersey in England's League One for a transfer fee of approximately £1m. Caldwell spent a good chunk of his career at Wigan, performing well in the central defence role and even getting on the score sheet at times. His highest number of appearances was 36 games in the 2011 - 2012 season, with three goals to his name. He retired from football at the end of his contract with Wigan, in February of 2015.
