Gerry Britton, hailing from Scotland and born on 20 October 1970, is remembered as a formidable forward, generally taking upon himself the striker's mantle on the pitch. Standing tall at 6ft (1.83m) and weighing in at approximately 11st (70kg), his physical attributes were in his favour.
Briton joined Celtic in July 1987 as trainee. He finished his training period and graced the Scottish Premiership with Celtic from 1990 - 1991, making two first-team appearances in league matches. Britton's time at Celtic was brief but crucial, offering him the exposure and experience useful in his subsequent footballing journey.
Britton transferred to Partick Thistle in August 1992. His spell was significant. Across multiple seasons, he made numerous first team appearances and bagged a number of goals. His most productive seasons were 1992 - 1993, and 2001 - 2002, during both of which he scored 12 goals.
After an interesting stint at Partick Thistle, Britton moved to Dundee in January 1994. There, he consistently made first-team appearances and continued to find the back of the net. He returned to Dundee later in his career in 2005, but his contributions were more measured on his return.
In July 1996, another transfer came calling, this time it was Dunfermline Athletic. Throughout his tenure at Dunfermline, Britton consistently gained game time and continued his goal-scoring endeavors. A brief spell on loan at Raith Rovers did not disrupt his rhythm, as he returned only to make more first team appearances and goals for Dunfermline.
In July 1999, Britton transferred to Livingston. His impact was immediate, scoring five goals in his first season. In his second season, he made 12 first team appearances and netted four times.
Britton, however, moved once again, this time returning to Partick Thistle in July 2001. He revisited his goal-scoring form from his previous spell, most notably in season 2001 - 2002 where he scored 12 goals.
Britton's later career saw him move to Motherwell in February 2005, followed by a return to Dundee and then moving to Brechin City in September 2005, and finally to Stranraer in June 2006. His appearances and goal contributions were more sporadic during these years, reflecting the winding down of an eventful footballing journey.
After an illuminating career spanned across Scottish clubs and littered with numerous appearances and goals, Gerry Britton hung up his boots in May 2007. Even years after his retirement, the echoes of his roars as a forward linger on in the pitches of Scotland.
