Giorgos Vagiannidis, born 12 September 2001 (age 24), is a Greek right-back now with Sporting CP. His senior career has been shaped far more by Panathinaikos than by anywhere else, with 71 league appearances and two league goals across five seasons.
His 2019-20 league return at Panathinaikos was oddly neat: one appearance, one goal. The broader point is less quirky. Panathinaikos gave him the bulk of his first-team football and remains the club most closely attached to his development.
At Sporting CP, where he wears the number 13 shirt, Vagiannidis has remained involved in 2025-26 rather than drifting to the margins. He has made 22 Liga Portugal appearances and five in the Champions League, taking him to 27 appearances in all competitions for the club this season, without a goal. He has also played four times for Greece in European World Cup qualifying.
Vagiannidis is a developing full-back whose career still leans heavily on his Panathinaikos years, but his current role at Sporting keeps him relevant at a decent level. His next step is simply to turn regular involvement into something more settled and lasting.
