Habib Maïga, born on 1 January 1996 (age 30), is an Ivory Coast central defensive midfielder now with Ferencvaros. His senior career was shaped early by loan football, useful groundwork before Metz became the club most closely tied to his name.
At Metz, Maïga settled into the sort of role that rarely invites much decoration: screening, covering, keeping the side connected. Across six seasons he made 128 league appearances and scored seven league goals, enough to make that spell the clear centre of his career. His most productive league campaign came in 2018-19, when he scored twice in 16 appearances.
He has since moved on to Ferencvaros, where his 2026-27 season has started in solid, consistent fashion. He has scored twice in two Nemzeti Bajnokság I appearances and also made two Europa League appearances, giving him four games and two goals in all competitions for the club.
Maïga’s career is not hard to place: early loan development, a long and steady Metz spell, then a later move to Ferencvaros. Metz remains the substantial part of the story.
