Jamie McCart, born on the 20th of June in 1997 in Scotland, currently serves as a central defender for Hearts at the spritely age of 27. McCart, sporting the number 30 jersey, stands tall at 1.86m (6ft 1in) and weighs in at 83kg (13st).
McCart's professional football journey started at Celtic in the Scottish Premiership as a trainee in July 2014. After spending a good portion of his early career at Celtic, where his tenacity and zeal for football were honed, McCart was loaned to Inverness CT in Scotland's League One in January 2017. During his debut season (2016-2017) at Inverness CT, McCart had 11 first-team appearances in league matches.
Building on his experiences at Celtic and Inverness CT, McCart sought another test and joined St Mirren in the Premiership in Scotland on loan in September 2017. His stint here was brief, making only three first-team appearances in league matches during the 2017-2018 season.
The thirst for another challenge took McCart to Alloa Athletic in the Scottish League One for a loan spell in January 2018. Post this experience, McCart decided to make a return to Inverness CT in July 2018, where he had a repeat of his debut season from 2016-2017, appearing on the pitch for 11 first team matches.
What came next in McCart's career was a step up, as he moved from Inverness CT to St Johnstone in the Premiership in Scotland in January 2020 for an undisclosed fee. He began to firmly establish himself as a consistent central defender, making eight first team appearances in league matches in the season 2019-2020, and firmly planting himself in the line-up the following year (2020-2021) with 37 appearances, a feat he again accomplished in the 2021-2022 season, scoring a goal as well.
In July 2022, McCart took his talents to England and joined Rotherham United in League One. While he managed to get on the field for seven matches in the 2022-2023 season, his appearances dwindled to just one in the following season (2023-2024).
Looking for more playing time, McCart found himself on a loan spell in Leyton Orient, a fellow League One club in England, in January 2023. However, his opportunities were minimal, and he only made two first team appearances in the 2022-2023 season. The completion of his loan saw him return to Rotherham United in June 2023, where his playing time remained limited as in the previous season.
McCart's journey saw him loaned out again in August 2023, this time to Barnsley in League One. He returned to Rotherham United upon completion of his loan in June 2024 but continued to struggle for appearances.
In what appears to be a career full circle, McCart returned to the Scottish Premiership in January 2025, transferring from Rotherham United in League One in England to Hearts in Scotland for an undisclosed fee. The dynamic defender has hit the ground running at Hearts, with eight first-team appearances and a goal in the current 2024-2025 season.
McCart also participated in the Scottish Cup 2024 - 2025 for Hearts, starting in two matches thus far.
From his days as a trainee at Celtic to his current form at Hearts, McCart has continuously honed his skills, building a wealth of experience in both the Scottish and the English league systems. A passionate and determined player, McCart's journey remains one to watch.
