Jeremie Frimpong, born in Amsterdam on 10 December 2000 (age 25), is a Dutch right-back now with Liverpool. Celtic was his first senior platform, after he arrived from Manchester City in September 2019 for around £350,000.
He was quick, direct and raw enough to keep things interesting, but there was a player there. Celtic moved him on in January 2021, selling him to Bayer Leverkusen for around £12m – a sizeable return, and one that looked better with each year he spent in Germany.
Leverkusen is where his career properly took shape. Across five seasons he made 133 league appearances and scored 23 league goals, an unusually heavy return for a defender. His most productive campaign came in 2023-24, when he scored nine times in 31 league matches.
His current market value is around £32.5m, according to Transfermarkt. At Liverpool, wearing squad number 30, he has made eight appearances across all competitions in 2026-27, with one goal in the FA Cup.
Frimpong’s career has moved from Manchester City’s system to Celtic’s first team, then on to the fuller development of his Leverkusen years and a later spell at Liverpool. The Celtic chapter was brief, but it was the one that first put him into senior football.
