João Manuel ‘João Virgínia’ Neves Virgínia, born on 10 October 1999 (age 26), is a Portuguese goalkeeper with Sporting CP. An imposing 6ft 4in (1.92m), he wears squad number 12 and has spent much of his senior career working for chances rather than collecting long runs of matches.
His senior league record includes a brief 2019-20 spell at Reading, where he made two league appearances. The spell that gives his career most of its shape, though, came at Cambuur. Across one season there, he made 17 league appearances – modest enough in the wider game, but still the clearest run of first-team football on his record.
At Sporting CP in 2025-26, Virgínia has made two Liga Portugal appearances and one in the Champions League, three appearances in all. His career so far has been that of a squad goalkeeper with one notable stretch of regular football at Cambuur.
