Johnny Kenny, a promising forward born on 6 June 2003 (now 22) in the Republic of Ireland is currently plying his trade as a striker for Bolton Wanderers. The lad stands at 1.77m (5ft 9in) and tips the scales at 71kg (11st 2lb). The number 9 jersey is currently his preference. His football skill has not just been recognised at club level, Kenny has also had the honour of representing the Republic of Ireland national team.
Presently, Transfermarkt values Kenny at a modest €600k, that's approximately £515k in the Queen's currency.
Kenny's professional career first took flight in January 2020 when he joined Sligo Rovers in the Republic of Ireland’s Premier Division. In his debut season, the youngster was in fine form, putting on a dynamic performance with 32 first team appearances and 11 goals to boot.
In January 2022, Kenny exchanged his football dreams for Europe and transferred to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership for a fee in the region of £140k. It was in Celtic that his potential truly began to shine. Having bagged a reasonable five goals throughout his tenure at the club, his peak season in 2025 - 2026 saw him register four goals from 15 appearances alone.
During his time at Celtic he briefly wandered to Queens Park in the Scottish Championship on loan in August 2022. Even with a scanty 12 first team appearances, his presence was clear. He was again loaned out in January 2023, this time to Shamrock Rovers where he managed to net five goals in his first season, and an impressive 13 goals in his second.
After his sabbatical in the Emerald Isles, he returned to Celtic in January 2025. Back in the familiar green and white hoops of Celtic, he contributed to the team’s success with a single goal in eight appearances in his first season and scored four goals in the following season, matching his impressive tally at Shamrock Rovers.
His career took a new course and in February 2026, when he transferred to Bolton Wanderers on loan in the English League One. It’s still relatively early days at Bolton, but he has flourished with four goals under his belt from 11 appearances.
The cherry on Kenny's professional career has been his participation in the World Cup Qualifiers Europe 2024 - 2026 for Republic of Ireland where he made a substitute appearance.
