Jonathan Lunney, born on 2 February 1998 (age 28), is a Republic of Ireland defensive midfielder whose senior career has been shaped overwhelmingly at Shelbourne.
He has been part of the Shelbourne first team across five seasons, making 141 league appearances and scoring four league goals. His most productive league campaign came in 2022, when he scored twice in 25 appearances, modest enough output but in keeping with a player used chiefly to hold the side together rather than decorate it.
By 2026, Lunney remains a regular presence. He has made 15 Premier Division appearances that year and 28 appearances in all competitions for Shelbourne, including matches in Champions League, Europa League and Conference League qualifying, as well as the Conference League itself.
Lunney’s career is not a scattered one. It is built around Shelbourne, where he has become a familiar, durable first-team midfielder rather than a passing name on the teamsheet.
