Born in England on the 28th of July 2004, now 21 years old, Josh Clarke is a modern day custodian of the goal currently applying his trade for Partick Thistle. Standing at a towering 6ft 2in (1.88m) and a robust 13st 3lb (84kg), Clarke dons the number 12 shirt and has the honour of representing the Northern Ireland national team under his belt.
Clarke's professional journey began in July 2021, when he joined the Premiership in Northern Ireland with Glenavon. The following year in August 2022, he made his way across the Irish sea to join Celtic, one of the giants of Scottish football. The details of the fee remain undisclosed.
During his time at Celtic, Clarke's experience was punctuated with multiple loan spells, the first of which took place in August 2023 when he moved to Airdrieonians in the Scottish Championship. However, Clarke's debut season was limited in terms of first-team exposure, making only a single league appearance.
Upon completion of his loan spell, Clarke returned to Celtic, where he was once more loaned out, this time to Ayr United. His stay at Ayr United was more prosperous for the young goalkeeper, with 12 first team appearances in the 2023-2024 season. The following season saw Clarke’ve clocked another eight appearances in the league.
After two consecutive loan spells with Ayr United, Clarke was on the move again, returning to Celtic and subsequently being loaned out, this time to Partick Thistle in the Championship in Scotland. In the ongoing 2025-2026 season with Thistle, Clarke has already made a commendable six first team appearances in the league, including a start in the League Cup 2025-2026.
Clarke's journey from Celtic to the Scottish Premiership, the lower tiers of the league, and his representation of Northern Ireland paints a pleasing tale of a developing player. Though not an integral part of Celtic's first team, his penchant for shuttling between clubs on loan to gather valuable game time and experience underscores a keenness to grow and progress in the challenging world of professional football.
