Josh Clarke, an English born goalkeeper currently plying his trade for Ayr United, was born on the 28th of July in 2004 and stands at a solid 6 foot 2 inches (1.88m) tall. Weighing in at 13 stone 3 pounds (84kg), Clarke is a lofty presence in the box and sports the number 61 jersey. Aside from his club duties, Clarke has also had the honour of representing the Northern Ireland national team.
His career saw a decisive shift in July 2021 when Clarke joined Glenavon in the Premiership in Northern Ireland. However, his stay was brief, and by August 2022, Clarke was on the move again, this time making the significant leap to our beloved Celtic in the Premiership in Scotland for an undisclosed fee.
Clarke's time at Celtic was punctuated by a series of loan spells to lower-league Scottish clubs. His first training trip saw him land at Airdrieonians in the Championship for the 2023 - 2024 season. The Englishman was able to pull on Airdrie's jersey just once in a league match that season. Having completed his loan period, he returned to Celtic in the next August, only to be sent on loan to Ayr United in the Championship in February 2024.
At Ayr United, Clarke found a better run of form, making 12 first team appearances in league matches for the 2023 - 2024 season. Upon completion of his loan, Clarke returned to Celtic in June 2024, however his stay was once again brief. By February 2025, Clarke was once again on the move to Ayr United, in what seems to be a productive partnership for player and club, with Clarke making a solid six first team appearances in the current 2024 - 2025 season.
Considering his two seasons at Celtic, despite most of his time being spent on loan, it's evident that Clarke has demonstrated his potential during his multiple stints in the Championship, with Ayr United seemingly the most beneficial of his loan spells. His progress will certainly be worth watching in the coming seasons.
