Josh Mulligan, our esteemed 23-year-old Scottish central midfielder for Hibernian, is admired by many for, among other admirable traits, his sturdy build of 12st 1lb (77kg) and moderately lofty stature of 5ft 8in (1.75m). Ah, it takes me back to recall his days as a notably energetic young lad sporting the number 20 jersey, making headway in both the Premiership and for the Scotland national team.
Now, we've all heard those cheerful chats about his current market value sauntering around the £1m mark. Yes, if you need validation of this monetarily-involved hearsay, there's this reasonably reliable source called Transfermarkt, confidently endorsing such claims.
Young Mulligan began his professional sojourn into football's challenging yet rewarding terrain back in July 2017, signing as a trainee for Dundee in the Scottish Premiership. His tenure at Dundee saw a humble debut season in 2018 - 2019 with a single first team appearance, but patience is a virtue they say. Mulligan probably had that quote plastered on his wall, as he went on to make 11 first team appearances, scoring twice in the 2021 - 2022 season. He continued his upward trajectory in Dundee, boasting an impressive 34 first-team appearances by the 2024 - 2025 season.
Yearning for a bit of fresh air and challenge, our lad sauntered over to Cove Rangers in January 2020 for a loan. Yet, the Premiership pulled at his heartstrings and by June 2020, Mulligan found himself back with Dundee. He was off again for another brief flirtation with the League One, at Peterhead in October 2020. What's more impressive is our young hero's dedication to his parent club. After each loan spell, he faithfully returned to Dundee, before finally transferring to Hibernian in July 2025 for a sum that remains a state secret.
A notable event this season has been his performance for Hibernian where he's made inroads with 22 first team appearances and a solitary goal in league matches. The lad even managed to score a goal in the League Cup whilst appearing in the Scottish Cup and putting on rather admirable performances in the Europa and Conference League Qualifiers. I dare say young Mulligan's career is one exciting adventure to keep a watchful eye on.
