David "Junior" Hoilett, a Canadian gift to football, was born on the 5th of June, 1990, which makes the forward a spry 34 year old. Currently, he flies his fancy footwork for Hibernian's left wing, proudly showcasing the jersey number 23. Built at a handy 5ft 8in (1.73m) tall, and tipping the scales at a lightweight 11st (70kg), Hoilett's capabilities on the pitch certainly prove size isnโt everything.
Way back in July 2007, Hoilett plunged into the deep end of the 2. Bundesliga in Germany, joining the ranks of Paderborn 07. The lad certainly put some effort in, managing to clock up 12 appearances and even squeezed in a goal during his debut 2007 - 2008 season.
Then, in July 2008, the call of the Bundesliga was too strong, leading Hoilett to dance his way over to St. Pauli. His efforts were not futile during the 2008 - 2009 seasons as he marked his presence with 26 first team appearances, peppered with six league goals.
July 2009 saw a bit of a career pivot for our lad when he touched down on English soil, joining Blackburn Rovers in the Championship. In his tenure at Blackburn, from 2009 - 2012, Hoilett managed a sum of 81 first team appearances, slotting home a total of 12 league goals.
From Blackburn, Hoilett took a short jaunt over to Queens Park Rangers in July 2012, for a fee that remains an enigma to this day. At QPR, over the course of four seasons (2012 - 2016), Hoilett displayed a rather consistent performance despite the team's generally uninspiring run, with 142 first team appearances and 14 league goals to his name.
Yet another career pivot came along in October 2016, when the Canadian maestro joined Cardiff City in the Championship. By looks of it, Hoilett certainly made himself at home in Cardiff, netting 23 league goals and boasting a hefty total of 173 first team appearances over his five seasons (2016 - 2021) with the club.
A rather abrupt change in venue (and attire) took place in August 2021, when our lad transferred from Cardiff City to Reading in League One. During his two seasons with Reading (2021 - 2023), Hoilett took to the field 61 times and managed to slot home 4 league goals.
His next pit stop was across the pond, as he transferred from Reading to the Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS in September 2023. In his brief season with the Caps, he made a humble total of seven first team appearances.
In February 2024, Hoilett found himself back on Scottish soil, joining the ranks of Aberdeen, where he made 13 first team appearances and popped in two goals during the 2023 - 2024 season. Then, as if he couldn't get enough of the Premiership, Hoilett transferred from Aberdeen to Hibernian in August 2024, where he has so far made 11 first team appearances and scored two goals in the ongoing 2024 - 2025 season.
And that, my friends, concludes the tale of Junior Hoilett, at least up to where we're at currently. Time will only tell where this Canadian forward will find himself next in his footballing journey. Here's to hoping heโs as puzzled by his ever-changing postal address as we are.
