Born in Denmark on 5 November 1986, Kasper Schmeichel serves as the capable custodian between the sticks for both Scottish Premiership side Celtic and his national side, Denmark. At 39 years old, he's an impressive 6ft 2in (1.89m) and weighs in at 14st (89kg), making his imposing presence known on the pitch. Donning the number 1 jersey for Celtic, his current market value stands at around £250k, as noted by Transfermarkt.
His football journey began in November 2004, matriculating from a trainee to a first-team player at Manchester City over several seasons. Making a few appearances for the club, his stint was punctuated by numerous loan spells, notably at Darlington and Bury where he accumulated several first-team appearances. In January 2007, Schmeichel found himself temporarily in Scottish football, this time at Falkirk where he held a consistent position in goal with 15 league appearances.
Several loan transfers ensued, with Schmeichel seeing action at Cardiff City and Coventry City before a permanent transfer to Notts County in the summer of 2009. After consistently defending the County goal over a season, he moved to Leeds United in the Premier League and later Leicester City, transferring for £1m. The move saw a boom in his career, with consistent appearances over numerous seasons, even securing a place in goal well into the 2021-2022 season.
With his time at Leicester City having drawn a close, Schmeichel found himself venturing abroad, transferring to Nice in France's Ligue 1 and subsequently to Belgium where he played for Anderlecht. His true homecoming, however, was yet to occur. And in July 2024, it finally did, when he transferred to Celtic - back in Scotland where international recognition had first found him.
His performance for Celtic has been commendable, making his mark with consistent appearances since joining in the 2024-2025 season. In the current 2025-2026 season, Schmeichel has already graced the pitch on 14 occasions. He's also shown commendable prowess in various cups and international tournaments, in the likes of the League Cup for Celtic and the Euro 2024 for Denmark.
