Standing at a towering 1.89m (6ft 2in) in height, he weighs in around 89kg (14 stone), a presence that truly covers the goal mouth. Schmeichel also proudly wears the number 1 jersey and has national representation under his belt, having played for the Denmark national team.
After making his start as a trainee with Manchester City in England in November 2004, he had a series of football clubs under his belt. He went on loan to teams including: Darlington, Bury, Falkirk, Cardiff City, Coventry City, Notts County, Leeds United, all while signed to Manchester City. These tenures varied from one season, and for some clubs like Bury, up to two football seasons. He transferred from Leeds United to Leicester City in the Championship in England for a fee of around £1 million.
In his debut season at Celtic, he has so far made a total of 32 appearances in league matches and has made 23 appearances in the ongoing season. In his time at Celtic, he has also participated in several tournaments, including the League Cup, the World Cup Qualifiers Europe, the Champions League Qualifiers, the Nations League, as well as the Europa League representing both Celtic and Denmark.
Schmeichel's market value is pegged at around €300k (£257k), according to Transfermarkt.
While the goalkeepers' career launched with Manchester City in 2004, he has been recognised for his dedication to the sport, his rigorous work ethic, and an impressive performance track record that has been acknowledged and echoed across different leagues internationally. Despite facing several moves, Schmeichel has stood his ground and made his mark in each team he has served.
His journey in Celtic, starting in July 2024, has been spectacular, weaving his way into the fabric of the team and becoming a guiding force in all their endeavours. His performance for the Hoops has not only made him a key player of the team but a fan favourite.
