Born in Denmark on 5 November 1986, Kasper Schmeichel is a highly regarded goalkeeper known for his imposing 6ft 2in (1.89m) stature and impressive weight of 14st (89kg). Currently wearing the number 1 jersey for Celtic, Schmeichel has also held his own on the international stage as a representative of the Denmark national team. Schmeichel began his footballing career in November 2004 as a trainee at Manchester City, making eight first team appearances between the 2007 - 2009 seasons. He then proceeded to spend two separate spells on loan, first at Darlington where he made four appearances, before making 29 appearances for Bury during the 2005 - 2007 seasons. He also has a notable stint at Falkirk where he made 15 first team appearances in the 2006 - 2007 season.
Following several loan stints at Cardiff and Coventry City, Schmeichel finally left Manchester City in August 2009 for Notts County, the transfer fee of which remains undisclosed. In the season following his transfer, Schmeichel made 43 first team appearances for Notts County. By July 2010, he had transferred to Leeds United, where he made 37 first team appearances in the subsequent season.
In what was surely a significant moment in his career, Schmeichel transferred to Leicester City in 2011 for roughly £1m. Here, Schmeichel had a remarkably consistent performance, making at least 30 appearances every season from 2011 to 2022. His time at Leicester City came to an end in August 2022, when he transferred to Nice for an undisclosed fee. Schmeichel's time at Nice saw him make 36 first team appearances in the 2022 - 2023 season.
Schmeichel's journey led him to Celtic, via brief stays at Anderlecht in Belgium. Since his transfer to Celtic in July 2024, Schmeichel has become a stalwart for the club. In the 2024 - 2025 season, he made 32 first team appearances and in the current season, he has already made 26 first team appearances. His time at Celtic has also seen him compete in various tournaments including the League Cup, World Cup Qualifiers Europe, Champions League Qualifiers, and the Europa League.
