Konrad Laimer, born on 27 May 1997 (age 29), is an Austrian central midfielder who has built his career on industry, timing and tactical discipline rather than much theatre. He is primarily a defensive midfielder for Bayern Munich, where he wears squad number 27.
Laimer’s strongest league return came at RB Leipzig in 2021-22, when he scored four times in 26 appearances. That was a useful reminder that, while his game is rooted in pressing and covering ground, he can still arrive in the right areas when asked.
At Bayern Munich, he has remained part of a demanding midfield picture. In 2026-27 he has made one Bundesliga appearance and also featured in the DFL-Supercup, giving him two Bayern appearances across all competitions so far.
Internationally, Laimer has continued to be involved with Austria. He has made eight European World Cup qualifying appearances, scoring twice, as well as four World Cup appearances. His current market value is around £21.5m, according to Transfermarkt.
Laimer’s career has taken him from a productive spell at RB Leipzig to Bayern Munich, with Austria remaining a steady part of the picture. He is an established first-team midfielder rather than a headline act, and that is more or less the point.
