Leo Hjelde, born on 26 August 2003 (age 22), is a Norwegian left-back whose Celtic connection came early in his career. He joined the club from Rosenborg in July 2019, arriving as a developing player rather than a finished article.
His most productive league spell while on Celtic’s books came in 2020-21 at Ross County, where he scored once in 11 appearances. It was a useful senior step, even if his longer-term path was already beginning to point away from Glasgow.
Hjelde left Celtic for Leeds United in August 2021. After his spell at Leeds, he established himself more fully at Sunderland, where he has continued his career as a left-back.
His career so far has been shaped by early moves: Rosenborg to Celtic, Celtic to Leeds, then on to Sunderland. He remains an established professional with room still to develop.
