Lewis Morgan, born in Greenock on 30 September 1996 (age 29), came through at St Mirren and built his early case there rather than arriving as a fully polished winger. Early loan football helped harden him up, and by the time Celtic moved for him he had already shown enough directness and end product to be more than a punt from the Championship.
Celtic signed Morgan from St Mirren in January 2018 for around £300,000. His time in Glasgow never quite became more than a development spell at a club where patience is usually rationed. He had ability, pace and a willingness to take players on, but the route into a settled Celtic place was narrow.
He left Celtic in January 2020, joining Inter Miami for around £360,000. That move took him into MLS, where he had spells with Inter Miami and New York Red Bulls. His best league season came in 2022 with New York, when he scored 14 goals in 32 appearances – a proper return from wide areas, and the clearest sign of him finding a role that suited him.
Morgan is now with San Diego FC, primarily used from the left. He has made eight MLS appearances for the club, without a goal. His career has moved from St Mirren promise to a brief Celtic spell and then a more substantial run in the United States, with New York Red Bulls providing his strongest season so far.
