No-one ever accused Liam Burt of being born in the wrong place or at the wrong time. This beacon of Scottish talent first graced us with his presence on the 1st of February in 1999. Standing at a respectable 5ft 8in (1.73m) and weighing in at a svelte 11st (70kg), Burt stepped forward as a left-winger. Although these days, he's plying his trade at Glentoran.
A journeyman by nature, Burt started his footballing pilgrimage at Rangers, joining as a trainee in 2014. It was during his debut season, 2015-16, when he first managed to squeeze onto the pitch for a grand total of two first team appearances. The following season's tally? A single appearance.
Perhaps seeking more first team action or an escape from the Premiership pressure cooker, Burt, in Feb 2018, chose the glamour of Dumbarton on loan. He then fancied a change of venue and moved to Alloa Athletic for another loan spell later that year.
In August 2019, Burt shockingly decided to turn his back on Rangers and crossed the footballing divide to join Celtic. I'm sure he fondly remembers those East End nights under the floodlights.
His journey led him across the water to Ireland in 2021, where he found himself running out for Bohemian FC in the Emerald Isleโs Premier Division. Noting an immediate improvement in his form, Burt managed 34 first team appearances and knocked in nine goals on his debut season. He followed this up with 28 appearances and 6 goals the next year.
Burt's next stop in his Irish tour saw him join Shamrock Rovers in 2023. In his usual style, he made a tidy 16 appearances and netted once.
Imitating a bloodhound with a scent for new experiences, Burt left Shamrock Rovers for Shelbourne in 2024 on loan. His time at Shelbourne presented him with 31 opportunities to show off his talents on the pitch and he managed to find the back of the net twice.
Having decided he'd spent enough time at Shelbourne, he returned to Shamrock Rovers in 2025, following the completion of his loan. Perhaps remembering the way of old, Burt made another 16 appearances and scored one goal, recreating his previous record at Shamrock in 2023. It's a languid sort of consistency, wouldn't you agree?
