The subject of our review is Louis Munteanu, born on 16 June 2002, who at the age of 23 is constructing a promising career in football both domestically in Romania and on the international scene. Munteanu is a talented forward, currently strutting his stuff for CFR Cluj in Romania's Liga I. His physical presence on the pitch is enhanced by his height, a touch over the 6ft mark, approximately 1.84 metres, and he weighs in at around 12st 1lb or 77kg, depending on your preference for imperial or metric measurements.
As is often the case with players of his calibre, assessing his market worth is open to interpretation, although it is reported to be in the region of £4.3m, according to Transfermarkt.
Munteanu's career path has taken him from his native Romania to Italy and back again. In September 2020, Munteanu took his first stride into a bigger pond when he transferred from Viitorul Constanța in Romania's Liga II to Serie A mainstays, Fiorentina, at a cost of around £1.8m.
Ever eager for a challenge, Munteanu then headed back home to ply his trade in Romania's Liga I, when he joined Farul Constanța on loan in August 2022. His debut season in 2023 - 2024 at Farul Constanța was a memorable one, highlighted by 34 first team appearances and a commendable tally of 12 goals in league matches.
Upon the completion of his loan spell at Farul Constana in June 2024, Munteanu returned to Fiorentina in Italy, only to pack his bags again a mere month later in July, when he transferred from Fiorentina to CFR Cluj back in Romania's Liga I for a fee of around £1.9m. His current season at CFR Cluj in 2025 - 2026 has thus far seen him make 14 first team appearances and net two league goals.
Munteanu has not only made an impact domestically but also on the international scene, representing Romania in UEFA U21 Qualifiers 2025 where he managed one goal in three starts. He also left his mark in the Europa League Qualifiers 2025 - 2026 for CFR Cluj, scoring once in three starts with one additional appearance as a substitute, as well as the Liga 1 Play Offs 2024 - 2025 for CFR Cluj, netting four in eight starts with two substitute appearances. Munteanu also made appearances in the Conference League Qualifiers 2025 - 2026 for CFR Cluj.
