Ľubomír Moravčík, born 22 June 1965 in the heart of Slovakia, was a trim 5ft 6in, 11st 6lb figure, dominating the middle of the park as an attacking midfielder throughout his career.
His final season was spent on the far-flung shores of Japan with JEF United Chiba in 2002, where he clocked a mere couple of appearances. Clearly, by then, his legs were not what they used to be.
Prior to his curtain call in Japan, Moravcik plied his trade for the Bhoys, Celtic. From 1998 to 2002, he made quite a mark on Parkhead, scoring 29 goals over 93 appearances. Stats alone won't do justice to the memory of those performances, but there you have it.
His time in the Hoops was preluded by a stints in France. Moravcik graced the pitches of Bastia during the '96-'98 seasons, netting 8 goals across 33 showings. A respectable tally for a lad in a foreign land.
Before Bastia, he held a tenure at Saint-Etienne, another French outfit. Between '90 and '97, Moravčík hit the onion bag 31 times in a gruelling 220 appearances. A marathon, not a sprint, eh?
