Lukáš Horníček, born on 13 July 2002 (age 24), is a Czech goalkeeper now with Newcastle United. At 6ft 6in (1.97m), he is a commanding presence, which rather comes with the job at that size.
The bulk of his senior career has been built at SC Braga. Across four seasons with the Portuguese club, he made 52 league appearances, giving that spell far more substance than any other part of his career so far.
His move to Newcastle has put him into English football, where in 2026-27 he has made one Premier League appearance, along with two UEFA U21 Qualifiers appearances, for three Newcastle appearances in all competitions.
His current market value is around £7m, according to Transfermarkt. For now, Horníček’s career is still best read through his Braga years, with Newcastle the next stage rather than the main body of work.
