Born on the ninth of December in 1997 in Scotland, Luke McCowan is a 28-year-old central attacking midfielder who currently struts his stuff for Celtic. A well-built chap for a footballer, he stands at 5 feet 9 inches tall (1.77 metres for the metrically-minded) and tips the scales at a healthy 11 stone 4 pounds (or 72 kilos for those so inclined). McCowan is recognised on the pitch by his number 14 jersey.
Currently, McCowan is estimated to be worth a tidy sum of around £2 million, as per the good folk over at Transfermarkt.
McCowan's journey in professional football began in earnest in July of 2016 when he was signed by Ayr United, a Championship side in Scotland. Though his debut season (2017-2018) saw him make just a single appearance with the first team, he remained undeterred.
His perseverance bore fruit in 2021 when he made a move to Dundee, a Premiership side. Over his time at Dundee, from the 2021-2022 season through to the beginning of the 2024-2025 season, McCowan put in 99 first team appearances and notched up a solid total of 23 goals.
In a move that brought joy to many a Celtic fan, McCowan was signed on by the Hoops in August 2024 for a rather reasonable sum of around £1 million. His initial season (2024-2025) at Celtic saw him feature 33 times (with 6 goals to his name) in league fixtures. The current season (2025-2026) has seen him make 18 appearances thus far and managing to net the ball once.
McCowan's time at Celtic has also been adorned with cup appearances. In the League Cup of 2025-2026, he managed a goal from his single start and two appearances off the bench. Showing Celtic's faith in him, McCowan was also given a run out as a substitute in the Champions League Qualifiers of 2025-2026, and starting once in the Europa League of 2025-2026.
All in all, Luke McCowan has proven to be a reliable addition to the Celtic roster, a fact that surely silences those who might have questioned his purchase price.
