Oh, the Scottish football pendulum swings again. At this point, meet Mr Lyall Cameron, a lad who popped into the world on a chilly Scottish day, 10 October 2002, if you're into remembering dates. Now 23, this midfielder is clinging to his prime years. The versatile chap primarily deploys his skills as a central attacking midfielder for Rangers, standing tall at 5ft 10in (1.8m) and tipping the scales at 11st 9lb (74kg). Jersey number 16 dims meekly under the mighty spotlight shining on this fairly fresh-faced journeyman.
Good old Transfermarkt has estimated his current market value in the wilderness of football at a spicy £1.3m. The lad certainly isn't driving a Morris Marina.
Mr Cameron's waltz with the football blew him into the balmy breezes of Dundee in 2017 as a trainee. Surprisingly, he seemed an able bod, making a heartening number of appearances for a newbie. Bless him. His debut season of 2022-2023 at Dundee saw him pour his all onto the park for 26 merry matches, netting eight goals in the process. By the time the 2023-2024 season came around, there he was again, hustling and bustling for another 32 games, this time managing to muster just five goals. Not to be beaten, he returned for battle in season 2024-2025, striding out for 33 first team appearances and having a friendly chat with the back of the net nine times.
In the passionate fling that is a footballer's life, players do occasionally dance to a new tune. Thus, in July 2020, Cameron found himself cartwheeling from Peterhead in League One to the dizzy heights of Dundee in Premiership, naturally for an undisclosed fee because who likes transparency in football?
He gamely went forth to score and play and run and charm for three full seasons, but presumably the scenic beauty of Dundee started to lose its charm, and like a call from the wild, in October 2020, he was shipped off to Peterhead in League One on loan, only to be called back to old faithful Dundee in January 2021.
Loans are charming things, as temporary as a pop song's chart life, and our lad was twirled back into the arms of Dundee in July 2021 from Peterhead on loan. But alas, the winds of fortune can be fickle, and February 2022 saw him spirited away to Montrose on loan. Un astonishingly, June 2022 witnessed his return to Dundee, the sort of yoyo happening that seems normal in football. But whatever floats their boats.
Then, there's always the thrill of a transfer and by the time July 2025 smirked its head around the corner, he was whisked away for an undisclosed fee (there's a surprise) to Rangers, where he has since strolled out for six first team appearances in league matches this current 2025-2026 season. He even managed to participate in the Champions League Qualifiers 2025-2026 for Rangers, notching up a goal in three starts and one appearance as a substitute. Ah, such is the fleeting fame of the footballing world.
