Born in Sweden on 19 March 1973, Magnus Hedman was a formidable figure in the goalkeeping world. With a height of 6ft 4in (1.94m) and weighing 14st 6lb (92kg), he began his footballing journey in April 1990 with AIK in the Allsvenskan in his home country.
His debut season encountered a limited field, playing only two league matches. However, over the seven-year tenure from 1990 to 1997, Hedman showed a consistently improving performance, culminating in 13 league appearances in the 1997 season before his transfer to Coventry City in the Championship in England for a fee rounded to £500k.
During his time at Coventry City, from 1997 to 2002, Hedman displayed exceptional prowess, particularly in the 1998 - 1999 season, where he participated in 36 league matches. After five active seasons with the club, Hedman was transferred to Celtic in the Premiership in Scotland in July 2002, for around £1.5m.
During his tenure with Celtic, Hedman turned in intermittent performances, with 7, 12 and 6 appearances in the seasons spanning 2002 - 2005. Notably, in January 2004, Hedman was loaned to Ancona in the Lower Leagues in Italy, where he made a modest carve out with three first team appearances in league matches, before returning to Celtic in June that year.
Following Hedman's time at Celtic, he mysteriously transferred in July 2005 to an unspecified club, before joining Chelsea in the Premier League in England in November 2006. His time at Chelsea was short-lived, with a departure for yet another unnamed club in May 2007. Nevertheless, Hedman's career journey clearly demonstrates his dedication to the sport, including critical periods at AIK, Coventry City and Celtic.
