Marcelo Saracchi, born on the 23rd of April 1998 in Uruguay, currently commands the left back position in the Celtic defence. At the age of 27, Saracchi's diminutive frame belies his defensive abilities. Standing 5ft 7in (1.72m) tall and weighing 10st 5lb (66kg), the number 36 has also had the honour of representing his native Uruguay's national team.
According to Transfermarkt, as of the present day, Saracchi's market value is estimated at around £1.5m.
His career started prosperously in the hemisphere south of our Parkhead, with a £1.9m move from Danubio of Uruguay's Primera División to the Argentine giants River Plate in August 2017. In his single season at River Plate, Saracchi impressed, earning a spot in 19 league games.
July 2018 saw Saracchi further his career in Europe. A transfer to RB Leipzig of the German Bundesliga cost the East German side a substantial £12m. Despite limited opportunities in Leipzig, making just nine appearances in his first season and four appearances in his second, Saracchi managed to net a goal in his second term.
Denied minutes on the Leipzig pitch, Saracchi sought match time in a January 2020 loan move to the Turkish Süper Lig side, Galatasaray. In the two half-seasons in Turkey, Saracchi played a total of 41 league games and scored twice.
Following the end of his Turkish adventure, Saracchi returned to his parent club, RB Leipzig. Still rigid in their defensive options, Leipzig failed to offer Saracchi more playing time, replicating the appearances of his previous two seasons.
Searching for a fresh start, Saracchi headed to the warm shores of Spain, specifically to Levante in LaLiga. Making 29 league appearances in almost two seasons, he evidently found more favour in Valencia.
Seemingly missing home, Saracchi returned to South America, this time pulling on the Boca Juniors shirt in Argentina's Primera División. Despite the £1.6m move in August 2023, his time at Boca was short-lived, with only 13 appearances and a single goal to his name in his single season stint.
And thus, we arrive at the present. In August 2025, Saracchi joined the Celtic family. The mighty Glasgow side welcomed the Uruguayan on loan. His time in the famous green and white has been fruitful thus far. Despite the season ongoing, Saracchi has featured eight times in the Premiership.
When not disrupting attacks for the Hoops, Saracchi has been representing both his club and country elsewhere. He started a League Cup game for Celtic and made two substitute appearances in the Europa League, whilst also earning two starting spots and three substitute appearances in the World Cup Qualifiers for Uruguay.
