Born on the 23rd of April 1998, Marcelo Saracchi has established himself as a resilient left back defender, currently on loan to Celtic from Boca Juniors. A native of Uruguay, Saracchi towers at 5ft 7ins (1.72m) and tips the scales at 10st 5lb (66kg). Adding to his portfolio, he has also donned the number 36 jersey for the Uruguay national team.
As of this writing, Saracchi holds a market value of approximately £1.5m as per information provided by Transfermarkt.
Saracchi began his professional journey at Danubio in his home country. From there, he earned a transfer to River Plate in Argentina in August 2017 for a fee of around £1.9m. His tenure there was marked by 19 first team league appearances in the 2017-18 season.
His progress didn't go unnoticed and in July 2018, he secured a move to Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig for a noteworthy £12m. However, his playing time was limited, with only 13 first team league appearances and a lone goal over two seasons.
In January 2020, seeking more game time, Saracchi packed his bags for a loan stint at Turkish top-flight team Galatasaray. There he had a fairly successful cry, making a combined total of 41 appearances across two seasons and scoring twice.
After the loan term ended, he returned to his parent club RB Leipzig in June 2021, only to transfer to Spanish LaLiga side Levante in February 2022. There, he made an impressive 29 first team appearances across two seasons.
His next journey took him back to Argentina in August 2023, where he joined Boca Juniors for a fee of £1.6m. However, his playing time decreased as he made only 13 first team appearances and netted one goal in the single season spent there.
In a surprising turn of events, in August 2025, Saracchi made his way to Scotland, securing a loan move to Celtic. Currently into the 2025-2026 season, Saracchi has already carved a niche for himself, making 15 first team appearances and scoring once for his new side. His performances have seen him play in the League Cup, Scottish Cup and even the Europa League for Celtic, while internationally, he's been part of the World Cup Qualifiers for Uruguay.
It's early days in his Celtic career, but Saracchi has shown that he has the mettle to juggle multiple challenges —with one can only hope, many more solid performances to come.
