Marco Tilio, born on 23 August 2001 and currently aged 23, is an Australian footballer best known for his performances as a forward, typically positioned as a left winger. He plays for Melbourne City and has been noted for his stature, standing at 1.7m (5ft 6in) tall, and weighing in at 67kg (10st 7lb). He usually sports the number 23 jersey. Aside from his club career, Tilio has also earned caps for the Australia U23 national team. His current market value, according to Transfermarkt, is placed at around £680k. As of this writing, his contract with Melbourne City is due to expire on 30 June 2025 with a short three months left.
His career has seen some exciting transfer action, starting in July of 2018 when Tilio joined Sydney FC in Australia's A-League. He made his debut in the 2019-2020 season, during which he made three first team appearances and scored one goal in the league. In September 2020, Tilio transferred from Sydney FC to Melbourne City, also within the A-League canvass. His performance at Melbourne City has seen vast improvements with each season.
Yet, Marco Tilio's journey took a thrilling twist in July 2023, when he swapped his A-League shirt for a Celtic jersey in Scotland's Premiership. The transfer fee was estimated at £1.1m. Regrettably, he could only clock two first-team appearances in the Scotland-based club in the 2023 - 2024 season.
However, Celtic and Tilio's affair was short-lived. By February 2024, Tilio found himself loaned back to his former club Melbourne City. Resuming his role as a forward, Tilio has continued to contribute with goals and appearances, justifying his reputation in the A-League. Across various seasons with Melbourne City, Tilio has made consistent first-team appearances and has proved his knack for finding the back of the net when it matters the most.
During his spell with Celtic, Tilio's exposure was limited. His arrival was heralded with much fanfare but unfortunately, he made only a mere two appearances in the top-tier Scottish competition. With such a short-lived endeavour in Scotland, his contributions were considerably less significant when compared to his resilient performance in the A-League. Despite the high hopes that came with his £1.1m move from Melbourne City, Tilio's short stint at Celtic appeared somewhat incongruous with the overall trajectory of his career.
Ultimately, he opted to return to Australia where he continues to impress with Melbourne City to date.
